'The Fiddler' (1975) 20m, dir. Marshall Riggan. This amazing film showcases an elderly East Texas fiddle maker and his wife. After his hand-crafted fiddle is finished, we discover that he's an amazing country fiddler, too. This 'lost' film was produced by Riggan for a religious organization. Later, under new management, the organization apparently decided that the film was more profane than sacred, and discarded or destroyed all remaining prints.

Beautiful and inspiring
I teach a filmmaking class in a small school, and I am always looking for inspiration in the archives. By happy accident I discovered this. I'm really glad I did.

Beautiful work
A tough old man out in the sticks, making beautiful music. I too would have liked to see more. The people making this film understood cinematography. There is still a Counterpoint Film company, but I don't know if they're the same people. I downloaded the mpeg4 which showed pixelation in a few frames, but not bad. This film deserves to be preserved.

Amazing Craftsman AND Musician
My only complaint about this video is that it's too short - would've loved to have seen more of this gentleman and his wife, and heard more of his playing and his wisdom.
